Monmouth AM Nick Ramsay has welcomed news that improvements, including signing, road markings and a carriageway realignment scheme are planned on the section of the A465 at Llangua.

Waiting restrictions are being considered to improve road safety on the section of road behind Abergavenny railway station.

Mr Ramsay contacted the Welsh Government Cabinet Minister for Transport, Ken Skates AM, after receiving complaints from Grosmont Fawr Community Councillors  about the Welsh Government’s failure to resolve ongoing safety issues at these locations.

“Grosmont councillors have told me that a series of tight bends combined with an adverse camber have resulted in a series of accidents on the section of road between Llangua Church and Monmouth Cap Bridge and that traffic calming signs agreed over three years ago have now been deemed unnecessary,” said Mr Ramsay.

“There is also concern about commuters parking in the lay-by behind the railway station and then crossing a fast section of the A465 to access the station via a footpath on the opposite side of the road. The lack of street lighting is hazardous and there have been several near misses. Another concern is that cars are becoming a target for thieves.

“The Cabinet Secretary states that all improvement schemes are prioritised for delivery across Wales but I hope we shall see some action on these road safety issues before much longer,” he said.
