The never ending saga of the lack of completion of the
development of the Heads of the Valleys Abergavenny
section has yet another twist.
The work has greatly succeeded the planned time scale by
what seems eons. The extra cost can now be revealed.
The over spend at the last count was £9.3 million and this
will certainly rise when the job is finally completed.
This is almost 30 per cent over budget and the work is
still incomplete. The gross incompetence is unbelievable.
It would be laughable if the money were not coming from
the taxpayer.
The Welsh Assembly has much to answer for. The AMs in
Cardiff Bay are too busy working on their expense claims
to be concerned with the odd £10 million.
They are more worried about claiming for curtains, super
duper television sets and new kitchens for their second
homes. These are major matters and the needs of the
taxpayer are secondary.
Because after all only recently did they not have some
eight per cent increase in their salary. But do not fret an
"independent" panel is looking at their salary. It is a racing
certainty that this body will come up with more mega
wage rises.
The gravy train has a one way track to Cardiff Bay and the
Welsh Assembly headquarters.
