Monmouth AM Nick Ramsay has joined a local campaign for speed reductions in the Mardy area of Abergavenny.

Nick Ramsay has backed the campaign of local resident and Conservative candidate for Mardy, Malcolm Lane, for the speed limit to be reduced to 40mph on Hereford Road.

Mr Ramsay has now written to the Council to endorse the proposal after backing from local residents.

He said, “A 40 MPH speed limit on Hereford Road, north of the turning for Coed y Brenin, would help slow traffic down before reaching the 30 MPH limit sign in the Mardy — a limit which is frequently breached.

“Local resident Malcolm Lane is working with local residents who feel strongly about this issue and I am pleased to support this key element of his local campaign to make roads in Mardy safer.”

Malcolm Lane, local resident and Conservative candidate for Mardy, said, “The safety of our friends, neighbours and children has to come first and I’m really concerned that if the speed limit on Hereford Road isn’t addressed there will be a major accident.

“I thank Nick for his help on this and hope the council takes urgent action.”
