Beverley Jones runs The Corporate Angel, Awaken Coaching Ltd and has some advice for readers now lockdown restrictions are easing across Wales.
As shielding for the vulnerable was lifted on August 16 I am sure there are many now going out that are doing so with trepidation.
As you are faced with going back into public places it is important you practice self-care to keep the anxieties at bay.
Anxiety can show up in a lot of different ways and it could indeed be feelings you are not used to experiencing.
It is imperative that should you be feeling any unwelcome emotions about going out that you seek professional help and speak to someone.
I have recently been assisting those I was shopping for during lockdown so here are a few tips I have given them; I hope they will help you.
Be prepared, things have changed, you may have to queue to get into shops for example, you will also have to ring in advance to make appointments for garages should you need to take your car in for work to be done, you will have to wait outside some premises to be called in, at hairdressers for instance. Whatever it is you need to do leave some extra time compared to time taken to do these tasks before lockdown.
In Wales it is not compulsory to wear gloves and masks however if you feel more comfortable doing so then do it, plenty of people are. (Public transport is of course an exception in this case)
If eating out, check out the establishment you are going through online if possible as many have procedures in place. It may be an idea to look at the menu beforehand, don’t worry if you are not online I would suggest you give them a call instead and ask any questions you may have.
Whatever your situation is it is important to remember that right now there are many travelling the same path. There are many groups still set up to help people if they still don’t feel able to go out right now and would probably suggest in this area you contact Monmouthshire County Council
where you will find the help and any information you need.
I wish you a positive transition from shielding, it is a different world in some ways, but you will find people are willing to help along the way. Remember baby steps are what you need to take to rebuild the path you trod before lockdown.
Take care and stay safe.
