THE Angel Hotel hosted the recent AGM for the Abergavenny and District Tourist Association.
Although it was a damp and foggy evening the meeting was well attended with Councillor Sam Dodd (pictured) in the chair.
She explained that although there had been challenges throughout a busy 12 months, the number of visitors remained buoyant and that we were faring rather better than other towns.
As no one new volunteered to join the committee, the current members agreed to serve for another year.
Abergavenny Mayor, Councillor Maureen Powell spoke briefly before a tourism award was presented to Julie Townley for her substantial input in making the new tourist office a success.
This was followed by Pandy resident, Helen Middleton speaking on behalf of the Appeals Committee for next year’s Eisteddfod.
She revealed the huge numbers of visitors that the event should attract to the town and urged those present to make the most of this rare opportunity.
Apparently, the last time the town hosted this event was just before the First World War.
Then the guest speaker, from the Usk area, David Morgan MBE gave those present a lively and enjoyable talk on his year as President of the Royal Welsh Show.
He gave a brief history of the Show’s origins and explained how each Welsh county took a turn in running it. After outlining the extensive duties expected of the president he revealed that he and his wife had found his year in office the best year of their lives.
Most of those present lingered to socialise before heading home.
