Llanwern RTB - 5

Blaenavon Blues - 0

BLAENAVON Blues were well and truly dumped out of the County Motors cup on Saturday by Newport based Llanwern RTB.

The Blues produced their worst performance in a generation and were second best in every aspect of the game.

The Blues players let the club down, let their manager Mason down, and let themselves down.

While the Blues were very poor, Llanwern played to their strengths and Blaenavon failed to cope with their physicality.

The Blues were a goal down after ten seconds when a miss-cued cross caught Blues keeper Jones out and the ball swerved into the top corner.

The Blues were soon two down, and after a third before half time, the game as a contest was over.

The Blues came out after the interval more in the mood to play some football, but were unable to break down the Llanwern defence.

With time ticking away the Blues threw men forward in the hope of getting a goal back, and in doing so left more gaps at the back.

Llanwern made it 4-0 when their 6'10" midfielder headed home, before making it 5-0 in the last minute to leave the Blues feeling very embarrassed.

This weekend the Blues have a free Saturday after County Athletic withdrew from their Amateur cup tie.

The following Saturday sees the Blues heading into two very hard away fixtures on the bounce.

Firstly Abercarn Utd on November 15 and then Pentwynmawr on November 22 in the last 16 of the FAW Welsh Trophy.

Finally, the senior section would like to congratulate the U18's on their first win of the season on Sunday - a fine 3-0 victory over Lucus Cwmbran.

The Blues goal scorers were Brad Jones (2) and Luke Watkins.
