THE historical blue Abergavenny sign on the front of the Town Hall could be replaced.
Town council members agreed to ask the area general manager Dale Roberts if the original sign could be kept with them after a replacement is put in.
Town councillor Alan Breeze said, "That sign is getting very old, if we do get a new one it should have Welsh as well as English on it. I it can be done I think we should welcome a new sign. Could we get ownership on the new sign by offering to pay a small part of its upkeep."
Town councillor Frank Olding said the members could ask Abergavenny museum to store the current sign and try and display it.
Town councillor John Prosser said, "I would like to see a new sign before it is approved to make sure it is what we want for the town."
The Council Members also agreed to invite Mr Roberts to the next project meeting to discuss the matter in further detail.
