ABERGAVENNY is set to gain a public electric car charging point after Monmouthshire Council launched the County’s first one in Chepstow this week.
Tokens for the point cost £5 and cars will be granted free parking while using the charging point. This recognises that charging will often take longer than the 30 minutes offered to other vehicles.
Councillor Bryan Jones, Monmouthshire’s cabinet member for county operations said, ‘The number of electric vehicles is increasing significantly and is set to increase further as the range of vehicles expands.
‘A lack of charging points is a major drawback to the growth of electric vehicles so this new facility will encourage drivers to opt for a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly choice.
‘We’re working with our contractor to identify further sites and Abergavenny is likely to be the next town where one or more charging points will be installed’.
