THIS Saturday sees the great annual switching on of the Christmas lights in Abergavenny.

Nevill Hall Sound's radio roadshow will provide the musical backdrop to the occasion and the station's presenters will help welcome Santa and his reindeer to arrive in style at the town hall.

Helping Santa and the mayor, Councillor Jane Foulser, switch on the lights at 4.30pm will be Abergavenny's very own Commonwealth cycling champion Becky James.

This will be followed by Santa and his reindeer leading a torch light parade through the town to Cibi Walk.

It is hoped that many more people will join in the parade and by bringing their lanterns with them will create a 'river of light' through the town.

The organisers are also encouraging people to wear their favourite Christmas outfit for the occasion.

On the parade's arrival in Cibi Walk, the precinct's own Christmas lights will be turned on.

This will be followed with carol singing around the Christmas tree with the Salvation Army musicians providing the music.
