A PETITION handed in at a full council meeting of Monmouthshire County Council concerning traffic noise on the A40 truck road at Penpergwm has been forwarded to the Welsh Assembly.

Over 100 people signed a petition complaining about the extent of traffic noise on the A40 and raised concerns about the likely increase of traffic and traffic noise once the Heads of the Valleys road dualling project is completed.

Councillors at the recent Bryn y Cwm area committee meeting were told that as the A40 is a truck road managed by the Welsh Assembly, the petition has been forwarded to the South East area engineer with the request that they advise both the petitioners and the council of their planned actions. County Council Brian Hood said, "I handed this petition at the last full council meeting. This road was built about 25 years ago out of concrete, not only is it noisy but it looks awful, it is an eyesore. It has been raised several times with the Welsh Assembly and have asked them to surface it with dark, quiet material."
