Cwmamman United - 2
Goytre -0
GOYTRE'S long trip to Cwmamman on Saturday produced an afternoon of woe that saw them limp to a 2-0 defeat after losing prolific goal-scorer Graham Mason and the influential Kevin Wallace in the first 15 minutes.
To make matters worse, Lee Waddon conceded a penalty when a dubious handball decision went against him after 20 minutes, but thankfully an outstanding save by keeper Gareth Williams kept Goytre's score-sheet blank.
That is until just before half-time, when a mix-up in the Goytre defence allowed United midfielder Jamie Evans a simple chance from six yards out which he gratefully took with a simple tap-in
The second-half saw Goytre wrest the mantle of control from United's grip somewhat, but for all their possession they failed to create any worthwhile chances.
A second United goal five minutes from time sealed Goytre's fate.
This Saturday Goytre are away to Briton Ferry.
Goytre - 1
Caldicot - 1
DUE to injuries and unavailability, Goytre were down to 12 players, including manager Ian Rosser, for Sunday's Gwent Senior Cup quarter-final tie against First Division Welsh League side and cup holders Caldicot Town.
Goytre's first real chance came after 25 minutes when a foul on Lee Grimes on the edge of the box resulted in a free kick. However, Lee Waddon's effort just went over the bar.
Goytre did manage to take the lead five minutes later when a half-cleared corner fell to Adam Roberts on the edge of the area. His powerful half-volley flew into the top corner of the net giving the Town keeper no chance.
From another Goytre corner the ball was cleared upfield to Caldicot's Luke Harris who raced clear, but a timely covering tackle by Dean Taylor averted the danger and ensured Goytre went in at the interval with their lead intact.
Caldicot forced Goytre onto the back foot for the opening period of the second-half and an unlucky 13 minutes in, Luke Harris lobbed Goytre keeper from 50 yards out for an excellent goal.
A breakout of defence should have seen Goytre extend their lead, when Ryan Andrews broke the offside trap and raced clear, but unfortunately Andrews lifted the ball over both the advancing keeper and the bar.
Goytre turned up the pressure in their search for a goal and after a goal-mouth scramble the ball fell kindly to Lee Grimes, but his shot across the keeper came back off the post and was cleared by a desperate defender.
At this point both teams seemed to settle for the looming draw and extra time.
In extra time only long shots by Craig Jollife and Mark Jones tested the Caldicot keeper who dealt easily with them, and both Caldicot and Goytre seemed content to let penalties decide the outcome.
Fortune finally favoured Caldicot who advanced to the semi-finals after winning the shoot-out 4-2, with the Town keeper saving two penalties and Gareth Williams keeping one out for the Goytre.
