ABERGAVENNY played their first game in the Carruthers Cup on the weekend when Abercarn provided the opposition at Avenue Road.

After 15 of the 21 ends, Abergavenny held a commanding lead, which they almost surrendered.

However, they managed to hold on and win the game by 71 shots to 69.

The rink of Ieuan Jenkins scored 11 shots without reply over the last seven ends to win by 20 shots to 10.

The rink of Keith Richards took command early and despite a fight back by Abercarn over the last five ends, won by 26 shots to 15.

John Beaton's rink conceded 12 shots over the final six ends, including four on the final end, to lose by 18 shots to 17.

Neil Mallard's rink was always behind and lost by 26 shots to eight.

This Saturday, Abergavenny travel to Beechwood to play their second game in the Carruthers Cup and Abercarn provide the opposition for a GBL game at Avenue Road.
