ABERGAVENNY RFC recently proved their international standing by holding a benefit night for the Russian squad who will be competing in the forthcoming rugby world cup.
Former Welsh captain and Sale coach Kingsley Jones is now coaching the Russian squad, aided and abetted by Henry Paul, former dual code international for the New Zealand (Kiwis) rugby league side and the English rugby union side.
The Bears, as they are affectionately known, flew to the United Kingdom for four warm-up matches ahead of the Rugby World Cup.
The Russians have already tested their mettle against Northampton Saints, Newport Gwent Dragons, and the Ospreys, and will play Gloucester tomorrow (Friday).
Kingsley Jones and Henry Paul are pictured with members of the Russian squad, alongside vice chairman Huw Beavan who organised the event.
Also pictured is water carrier fro Abergavenny's first XV, Reece James, holding one of two signed shirts which was raffled on the night.
During the course of the evening, Kingsley Jones gave a hilarious account of his rugby life so far with anecdotes and impressions of the many characters he has played with over the years. A rugby quiz followed and then a question and answer session with many probing questions.
Russia are now Abergavenny's adopted side for the world cup, and all at the club will be watching their progress with interest and cheering them on, except that is, if they should play Wales.
