A Llanfoist woman received a threatening and ‘frightening’ phone call on Tuesday morning, and is warning residents to be aware of scammers.
Linda Davies, 71, said she had an answer-phone message from a lady who claimed Mrs Davies’ Llanfoist home was ‘under surveillance’ and there would be ‘huge consequences’ if she didn’t call a number provided by an unknown woman’s voice, and pay a sum of money.
“It was demanding,” she said. “It near terrified me. But I didn’t fall for it. I thought ‘Oh my God!’ I’d better get in touch with the police,” she continued.
Mrs Davies told the police about the harrowing incident. They then directed her to the fraud prevention hotline. ??“I’d just like to warn people,” said Mrs Davies. “The voice was very threatening. I didn’t fall for it, though. I just want to make sure other people don’t fall for it, either. These people target older people who may fall for it.”
If you have any information on possible fraud or related crime, please contact police on 101.
