A 53-year-old Abergavenny man Is due to appear before magistrates in Newport tomorrow (Friday) charged with murder following the discovery of a woman’s body at an address in Usk early on Wednesday morning. The victim has been named locally as Georgina Symonds, aged 25 from Allt-yr-yn in Newport, who leaves a young daughter.
The cause of death has yet to be established and will be determined following a post mortem examination. The arrested man remains in custody helping police with their inquiries.
The family of the deceased are being supported by family liaison officers.
Senior investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Roger Fortey said, "This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the family of the deceased at this very difficult time.
"Our investigation will establish exactly what happened and additional patrols will be taking place in the area in the coming days to provide local residents with confidence and reassurance.”
Gwent Police are not believed to be looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.Ms Symonds’ friend Alexy Butcher has described as ‘one of a kind’.“You’ll never meet another one of her. She was so funny. She could make someone so down rethink their lives and be happy.“Her sense of humour was out of this world. Everyone loved her. “She thought the world of her daughter, she was a fantastic mum.”She added, “It’s unreal. I can’t get my head around it“I just can't see beyond today or tomorrow. I just want that beautiful blonde bombshell back that made me laugh till I was in tears.“Such a big part of my life. I really will never forget you Georgina.”
