UPDATE: Police have confirmed that 40 year-old Michael Thomas, who was wanted by Gwent Police after failing to return to HMP Prescoed on Thursday April 28, has now been located and arrested.A prisoner is being hunted by police after failing to return to an open prison in Usk.
Michael Thomas, 40, failed to return to HMP Prescoed yesterday, having been released on a special purpose licence.
Thomas was convicted of wounding with intent and was serving an indeterminate sentence. Police stressed that he is not a registered sex offender.
He is described as white, short dark brown hair, unshaven, medium build and approximately 6 ft tall.??Gwent Police has is currently working with neighbouring forces in a concerted effort to find him.
It is believed there may be a potential risk to the public due to the fact that he is no longer in the custody of the prison service.
If anyone sees him or knows of his whereabouts they are advised not to approach him but to call police on 101 quoting log 424 28/4/16.
