Gwent police is appealing for information following reports of the shooting of two protected eagles in an Ebbw Vale bird sanctuary

The bodies of the Bruno a Russian Steppe eagle and Alexa the African Tawny eagle were found in their aviary at The Owl Sanctuary in the town’s Festival Park when volunteers arrived for work.

It’s believed the birds were shot sometime between 6:30pm on Friday, June 30 and and 4pm on Saturday, July 1 when access was gained to the secured sanctuary.

Speaking on social media a spokesman for The Owl Sanctuary said, “These were two large, stationary birds in their aviary - the shooters must be so proud of themselves.”
