Thieves smashed into several vehicles in Abergavenny and Gilwern, before making off with thousands of pounds in tools, police have said. ??Three separate thefts have seen the thieves break into tradesman vans and filch £7,000-worth of drills, power tools and a radio.
A Ford Transit van was broken into in the Croesonen Gardens area of Abergavenny sometime between 12am and 7am on Tuesday 14th November. The suspects smashed the locks before stealing £2,000 worth of drills and work tools as well as a radio.
Thieves then stole £5,000-worth of tools after breaking into a second Ford Transit van in the Gilwern area between 8pm on Monday, November 13 and 7.30am the next morning.
Police also revealed that criminals tried breaking into a vehicle on Rother Avenue, Abergavenny. The offenders damaged the lock, but left empty-handed. It is believed the attempt took place between 8pm on Monday, November 13, and 11am the following morning.
PC Jon Sliczny said, ”We are currently investigating each reported crime and asking residents to lock their vehicles at all times.
“Where possible, I would advise van owners to remove expensive tools from their vehicles at the end of each day.
“It’s also a good idea to property mark your tools and equipment, so that if they are recovered they can be traced back to you.
“Following these recent thefts, I would encourage van owners to be particularly vigilant. If anyone sees anything suspicious in their area, then please get in contact with us.”
