A 31 year old man has been detained by Gwent Police following an incident in Dan-y-Deri in Abergavenny on Tuesday afternoon.

Police were called to the area at just after 3.20pm following reports of a dispute between two men in which one was seen to be ‘brandishing’ an air rifle.

It was later reported that one of those involved had been shot and was en route to hospital. It was confirmed by police that his injuries were not life threatening.

A police spokesman said that an armed response team was dispatched to the scene and at 4.07pm a 31-year-old man was ‘peacefully detained’ and a weapon seized for forensic examination.

She added that while the incident was taken very seriously at no time had there been any risk to the public.
