FOUR people have been taken to hospital following a traffic accident on the A40 near Raglan earlier this morning.

Long delays built up in the wake of the incident, which was reported at around 5am. Police have said that one vehicle was involved and all four occupants received injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.

Slip roads on the eastern side of the Raglan interchange were closed and traffic coming off the Newport-bound A40 to the Abergavenny-bound A40 and traffic heading away from Abergavenny trying to access the Southbound A449 towards Newport was also affected.

A Gwent Police spokeswoman said: "At approximately 5am this morning, we received reports of a single vehicle RTC on the A40 Monmouth towards Raglan.

"The vehicle contained four occupants who all received injuries and have been taken to hospital for treatment. The on and off slip road Southbound of the A40 remains closed at this time."
