Police are warning residents to not fall for a scam which parades as a job interview, before fleecing the victim of £100.
Gwent Police said they received a tip-off from a member of the public after scammers tried to dupe them into handing over the sum after a fake job interview.
The victim said they received a phone call from someone saying they had seen the person’s CV and offered a telephone interview, in line for a ‘job’.
Just before the fake interview, the scammer called, saying it has ‘been cancelled’ and that the victim will be ‘hired’ based on their CV alone.
The member of the public was then given a website link, so they could undergo a bogus ‘security check’ before the link asked them to hand over £100.
A police spokesperson, said, “We’ve recently received a report of a scam whereby someone has called a member of the public saying they have seen their CV and would like to set up a telephone interview for a job.
“Thankfully on this occasion, no money was handed over.
“Please do not pay any money if you receive something similar.
“Please be alert to this type of crime and if you have any concerns, report these to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or visit www.actionfraud.police.uk.”
