An 83-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of an Abergavenny woman.

Officers from Gwent Police attended an address in Park Close on Wednesday morning last week after concerns for the welfare of two residents were raised.

A 78-year-old woman, who can now be named as Pamela Butler, was found deceased at the address. An 83-year-old man was taken to hospital.

Police have said the man has now been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently under the care of Aneurin Bevan Health Board.

A police spokeswoman said, “An investigation is on-going to establish the events surrounding the incident but officers are not looking for anyone in connection with this.”
