Abergavenny schoolboy Luke Greenall, who helped thwart a £4,000 jewellery snatch from Gus Jones jewellers in the town centre in August, has received a police commendation ‘for bravery and civic duty’.

Luke, a pupil at King Henry VIII School, gave chase after he saw the thief run out of the shop in Frogmore Street, pursued by a member of staff.

He kept an eye on the suspect and rang the police with details of the location - not far from the Argos store. Police rushed to the scene where an arrest was made.

Gus Jones’ senior director Michael Jones said afterwards, “I thought the young lad’s response was extraordinary. He was very brave.”

The framed citation presented to Luke last week reads: ‘This East Local Policing Area commendation is awarded to Luke Greenall for bravery and civic duty when giving chase to a suspect who had robbed a jewellery store in the town of Abergavenny’.

It is signed by Superintendent Glyn Fernquest.
