GWENT Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward following the death of a pedestrian in Brynmawr on Sunday afternoon.

Gwent Police were called to the incident involving a car and a pedestrian, in Market Square in Brynmawr at around 2.30pm on Sunday

The pedestrian was initially taken to hospital with ‘serious injuries’ but Gwent Police later confirmed the pedestrian had died.

A 29-year-old man, from Brynmawr, is being held in police custody on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving while investigations continue

A Gwent Police spokesman said: "Officers attended the scene and dealt with a one vehicle collision with a pedestrian.

"Sadly, the pedestrian involved passed away from their injuries and specialist officers are supporting their family at this difficult time.

"Investigations are ongoing and officers would be particularly interested in hearing from motorists with dash cam footage of the incident.
