NEARLY 40 people were sent packing by police after a Bank Holiday weekend clampdown on late-night disturbances at Abergavenny car parks.

Police were out in force to execute their brief to keep anti-social behaviour to a minimum at the Fairfield and bus station car parks.

Both sites have been plagued by after-hours disturbances - many of them involving so-called boy racers revving up their din-making motors.

Over a 48-hour period from 10pm on Friday to the same time on Sunday officers issued 38 Dispersal Notices to those who had no proper business being where they were.

Insp Huw Jones said many of those given their marching orders were not actively making a nuisance of themselves.

“But there are always those who will do wheel spins and doughnuts. The majority were generally standing around and chatting,” he said.

He revealed that the ongoing problem would be the subject of a forthcoming police operation to tackle issues raised by local residents living the area of both car parks.

Efforts are continuing with local authorities to deal directly with some of the more immediate problems.
