ABERGAVENNY Squash Club’s ‘D’ team managed to win a match, but still lost the remainder, going down 4-1 to Abertillery. The only success story came from Simon Cave, who as usual blasted his opponent off court! With this loss, the team drop to the bottom of the table.

On the same night, the ‘C’ team lost an important match by three matches to two against Monmouth ‘B’, thus practically condemning them to relegation. Again, Carl Whiteman won his match comfortably, and was ably supported by Tim Woodier, but unfortunately it was not enough. The team remain in seventh place, but the gap to this Monmouth side in sixth place is now too big to make up.

The ‘B’ team won another match by four matches to one against Monmouth ‘A’. This was almost a repeat performance of last week, with Chris Phelps, Gary and Ellis Lawrence all winning convincingly, with Carl Whiteman also victorious. The team has almost cemented their promotion with just two matches to go.

The ‘A’ team lost to an impressive Newport side by four matches to one. All the matches were extremely competitive, but only Steve Williams was able to come out with a victory. The team are still in fifth place, and, with two games to go, another win should ensure their mid-table status and a position in the Premier League in the spring.
