Trethomas Bluebirds FC - 1

Abergavenny Town remain top of division one following an excellent away win against third placed Trethomas.

The Town have stretched their lead over their nearest rivals to seven points with the luxury of two games in hand.

Jake Heckles opened the scoring for the Town after 30 minutes when Dean Morgan fired in a left wing cross which saw Heckles slam the ball into the roof of the net.

The score remained 0-1 to the Town at half time, but after the re-start Town were out of the blocks immediately and when Jac Evans put in a sublime left wing cross Dean Morgan was on the end of it to bring a fingertip save from Williams in Trethomas' goal.

Morgan was not to be denied and when Dan Barnard fed Jamie Laurent it was his astute pass which set Morgan free to score the goal of the game, bearing down on Williams and firing a shot which clipped his far post before entering the net.

Nathan Davies was next on the score-sheet when he let fly with a shot which took a deflection leaving Williams powerless as the ball soared into the top left hand corner of his net .

Town further increased their lead when another Morgan surge into the box saw him felled by Williams but it was Morgan who stepped up to the plate to score from the penalty spot. Trethomas grabbed some late consolation when Dan Barnard was harshly adjudged to have fouled and they netted from the penalty. On Saturday, Town are home to Newport Corinthians (K.O. 1.30pm) in the second round of the Gwent Amateur Cup, and hope to emulate both Abergavenny Thursdays (1962) and Govilon AFC (2008) in lifting the trophy.

On Tuesday, December 9 (7pm) there is a midweek fixture at Pen-y-Pound against Fairfield Utd as Town start to play some of their postponed league fixtures.
