Abercarn Utd FC - 1

Abergavenny Town FC - 4

TOWN travelled to Abercarn with revenge in mind as Abercarn are the only side to have taken points off Town this season following the 3-3 draw at Pen-y-pound back in August.

Town set out their intentions from the off and both Craig Norman and Jamie Laurent saw their efforts go close over the bar before Town struck after ten minutes, with a virtuoso goal from Dean Morgan.

Morgan received the ball with his back to goal, turned and drifted past the defence before flicking the ball home with the deftest of touches.

The next Town goal came when Laurent, who was operating on both wings floated in a free kick from the left, and it was met by midfield maestro Aaron Norman who steadily added a header to his growing tally of goals.

Five minutes later it was another Laurent cross, this time from the right, which was the undoing of Abercarn, as the ball found Morgan who made space for himself before firing in.

Town went into the interval with a comfortable lead after a first half which saw 'keeper Tom Indge enjoying his new role as a spectator.

Town never quite recaptured their flowing style in the second half and Abercarn reduced the arrears with a penalty at the midway stage, but Dan Jenkins restored Town's cushion when he netted with eight minutes remaining.

Town thought they had scored a fifth when Rhys Whiteman's thunderbolt shook the back of the net, but this was chalked off by referee Murdoch who deemed Abercarn's 'keeper had suffered a head injury.

However Town returned home with all three points to their re-vamped social club for a highly successful Christmas party that evening.

Albion Rovers - 1

Just under 100 spectators watched the festive clash between Town and Albion at Pen-y-Pound and must have thought they would witness a goal feast when Dan Jenkins scored for the Town after only eight minutes.

Town who had easily beaten Albion 5-0 at their Kimberley Park ground at the end of August found this current outfit a much tougher nut to crack, and Albion could easily have drawn level after 20 minutes, had it not been for a terrific penalty save from Town's keeper Tom Indge, diving to his right to divert Chris Pearce's spot kick to safety. Town put together several flowing moves in the first half and when Dean Morgan slipped a short five yard pass to Jamie Laurent the winger gave it full blast and Fletcher in Albion's goal was lucky to see the ball rebound off his knees. However Town did open up Albion again and this time it was mid-fielder Nathan Davies who did the damage scoring five minutes before the interval. In the second half Albion saw more of the ball with Tristan Chambers looking the biggest threat and it was no surprise when he pulled back a goal on the hour. For the remainder of the half the game ebbed and flowed, but neither side looked in really serious trouble, although referee Simon Griffiths, who played five minutes added time did dismiss Town's Craig Norman in the final minute.
