ABERGAVENNY'S RFC's U16 team have just returned from their first hugely successful European tour which saw them deliver impressive performances and record comprehensive wins. Eighteen boys and ten parents went on tour to Loretta de Mar. Almost all of the players had played together at Abergavenny since the age of 11, and in some cases, since the age of six. Their first game was against BUC, Barcelona, which they won by 78-0, and their second match was against Sites which they won with an impressive 88-0 score line. A club spokesperson said, "The hospitality shown by our friends in Spain was superb, everyone was so friendly making our visit so much more special." Upon returning from the tour the U16 team had their very own tournament earlier this month at Bailey Park against some excellent teams such as RTBs, Ystrad Rhondda, Newbridge and Caerleon. Needeless to say, Abergavenny won the tournament. In fact, they have only lost one game all season. The club spokesperson added. "Special thanks must go to Dorian Aylett and Simon Leonard who have coached the boys throughout. They are all a credit to the club. Many of the players are involved with the Newport Gwent Dragons, with Ashley Gibson and Joshua Reid making the Welsh Under 16s Schools squad. "The majority of the boys are now looking forward to next season when they will be moving up to 'Youth' rugby."
