THERE have been a number of notable successes this year for the teams at Woodlake Park Golf Club.

To finish an excellent season the Club won the Golf Union of Wales' Ping Mixed Foursomes Championship at Neath GC. In the morning semi-final there was victory over Clays by two games to one, and in the afternoon the Woodlake Park team, consisting of Annette Brimble (captain), Richard Blackmore, Julie Ranasinghe, Jason Southan, Jan Robins and Dave Smith took the trophy after beating the team from Carmarthen Golf Club by the same margin.

During the season the other members who played for this team were Jane Paske, Janet Cavaciuti, Alun Willis and Vaughan Thomas.

The Ladies' Section also entered the world of league golf for the first time this season and was successful in winning Division 10 of the Monmouthshire and Glamorgan League after comfortable victories in all their games apart from a narrow defeat at Llantisent and Pontyclun. The team consisted of Jane Paske (captain), Barbara Nelson, Janet Cavaciuti, Julie Ranasinghe, Lesley Osmond and Janet Sadler.

Woodlake Park has always had enthusiastic and successful teams playing in the Hallett (over 18 handicap) and Wayfarer (10 – 17 handicap) leagues that run in South Wales.

This season however the Hallett team, captained by Bruce Brown, achieved the unique double when they won the overall League Cup (beating Alice Springs in the final) the week after their victory against Criegiau in the Jim Davies Cup.

The Wayfarers, captained by Steve White, won their division and accumulated more points than any other team in the other sections of the league. They will now play in the Premier Division next season.

On behalf of Woodlake Park, the Club Captain, Mr Gerald Black, congratulated the teams and thanked all those members who contributed to the successes this year.
