ON another sunshine Saturday Glangrwyney CC made the long trip to league newcomers Eastnor Fourths and returned with a comprehensive ten wicket win.

Skipper Colin Griffiths once again won the toss and put Eastnor in on what looked like a reasonable batting track.

Haydn Davies (one for 38 off 12) got the initial breakthrough with Eddie Harding (one for 34 off seven) coming on for the injured Richard James getting Eastnor's hard hitting opener.

With the score at 98 for two off 22, Eastnor looked set for a score of 230 plus with wickets in hand.

However, experienced bowlers Colin Griffiths (four for 35 off 10) and ex Llanarth all-rounder Jonty Jones completely changed the whole course of the game with Jones (four for 36 off ten) claiming the scalp of the dangerous Simon Jones (59) who was caught spectacularly by debutant, 15-year-old Tom Devoy.

Lewis Morgan then had three good catches and Eastnor were reduced to 167 all out in the 44th over.

After tea, returning opener Mike Parker (91 not out) and the experienced Paul Daniels (60 not out) faced their innings superbly with shots all round the wicket.

Eastnor skipper Steve Emery resorted to trying eight bowlers to try and break the partnership with no success and Glan reached their target with 11 overs to spare.

LAST weekend there was a record-breaking aggregate run fest at Kington with the Glang just coming out on top by two runs.

The Glan were inserted and Mike Parker (152) and Paul Daniel (32) put on 119 for the first wicket with Parker hitting a superb maiden league century.

Following Daniel's LBW Nick Jones then joined Parker before PArker was bowled off the last ball of the innings having also hit his maiden century.

With Jonty Jones having pulled out at the eleventh hour, skipper Colin Griffiths (two for 66 off 12) found himself a bowler short and former first team Kington batsman Roger Joames (147) took full advantage, hitting a glorious century before being caught.

Jim Lewis (30), another former first teamer, then joined Pete Smith (75 not out) and the two along with Darren Fellows (20 not out) looked to be taking the game away from Glan who were unable to stem the flow of runs.

Kington needed 39 off the last five overs and 14 off the last over, however Jones and James both bowled well keeping their nerve under pressure to restrict Kington to 332 for five in what was a wonderful game of cricket played in excellent spirit.

Glan now in third place look forward to playing Dales in their first game at home on their new ground at Cwrt-y-Gollen.
