ABERGAVENNY Tennis Club's Tom Norton started 2014 with a series of achievements which have established his reputation amongst the best eight and under tennis players in South Wales.

Aged six and having played at ATC since joining the club's Tots programme aged three, Tom was invited to join the South Wales Development Training Squad for the winter after catching the eye of the Tennis Wales performance team.

He subsequently took part in the Lawn Tennis Associations County Talent ID Day in Cardiff where an impressive performance led to him being entered for his first South Wales County Tour event at David Lloyd Cardiff where he competed against the best 'Mini Red' players from across the region.

Tom progressed through a round-robin box of seven other players to reach the event semi-final - a fine achievement at this level. The club wishes to congratulate Tom on his 'ace' progress.

Tom started off his tennis career being coached by leading Welsh coach Robert Wedlake before Robert departed Abergavenny for Penarth. Sean Jones who is on the Tennis Wales coach advantage scheme is currently coaching Tom and was in Cardiff to see him play.

Abergavenny Tennis Club will be holding a fun tennis for mini tennis red players (ages 5-8) on Saturday February 1 from 9.30-11am . It is open to non members and members alike. Those wishing to take place should email Carys on [email protected]">[email protected] .
