THE Abergavenny open men's doubles team are just about holding their own in the Cymru Kitchens (CK) division four this winter.
Captained by Andy Clement, the side is being used to develop some of the younger juniors playing alongside the more seasoned senior players. A couple of victories towards the end of the season should secure their position.
The open ladies team captained by Helen Jackson have met with stiff opposition in the CK division three. They are currently standing in sixth place and will be looking to beat Rhiwbina and Radyr in the return matches in the next few weeks to overtake them in the league.
The open mixed team, captained by Andy Clement are having far more success in division one. Currently standing just below the leaders in third place, there is every chance these two teams can be beaten in the return legs, giving the team a shot at the title.
The veterans men's team (over 40), captained by Mark Johnson, are also doing very well. The team won this league last year and are currently second to runaway leaders Alltyryn (Newport).
The veterans ladies (over 35), captained by Brenda Saunders are having a hard time of it in the top league, and will realistically need to win their last three games to have any chance of avoiding the drop.
Abergavenny veterans mixed, captained by Alice Garlick, are the most successful team this winter. They currently lead division two, and have every chance of winning this league.
