Abergavenny Squash Club’s ‘D’ team commenced its campaign with a visit to Caldicot, losing by five matches to nil. However, the team fought hard, and Mitchell Lawrence took his tricky opponent to five sets. The team lie in fifth position.

On the same night, the ‘B’ team entertained Penybont, and won convincingly by four matches to one. Ellis Lawrence had a good win against a wily opponent, and he was ably supported by father Gary, Mike Logan and Gareth Hughes-Jones. The team immediately move into second place, and look strong candidates for promotion back into the higher division from whence they came!

On the same night, the ‘E’ team travelled to Monmouth with only four players, but still managed to squeeze a 3-2 win. Gary Hortop had an easy win, but Chris Owen and Tony Davies both had to come back from losing positions in order to win their matches, a testament to their resolve for the team! The team take up the third spot, and already fancy their chances for promotion.

The ‘C’ team also travelled to Caldicot and lost an extremely tight match 3-2. Mike Logan and Chris Phelps both won very easily, but all the other matches were lost in the fifth set, which was very frustrating. The team lie in fifth place overall.

Finally, the ‘A’ team entertained the champions and were comprehensively beaten 5-0 by St Mellons. However, this came as no great surprise, as our top three players were either unavailable or injured. The whole experience of playing in the Premiership will do our ‘B’ team players no harm at all! The team are at the bottom of the table, but they will be back!
