BRYNMAWR bowling maestro Aaron Rees had the honour of pulling on the red shirt of Wales and representing his country last month.
The 16-year-old was selected to play in the under 18's British Isles Indoor Bowls International Series, held at Stanley Indoor Bowls Centre, County Durham, Newcastle.
Rees participated in two trials before being picked and was the only player from Blaenau Gwent to represent Wales.
The event was very successful with teams from Wales, England, Ireland, Scotland and the Channel Islands bowling and battling it out. The bowling standard was, as expected, excellent.
Rees was chosen to play in the Pairs along with Jake Phillips (from City and County of Swansea) and the two bowlers were over the moon to win a bronze medal.
Rees was also chosen to play in the Fours along with Katie Thomas (Heatherton Bowls Club), Jake Phillips and Gwynfor Parr (Sully).
Rees has also been selected to play for the W.B.A Under 18 Academy for the next 12 months.
Aaron's mother Catherine Rees said, "Aaron and Jake were over the moon to win a Bronze Medal in the pair's competition. This is an amazing achievement for Aaron considering it was his first Welsh Cap.
"Aaron did Blaenau Gwent proud and I'd like to thank all the people who helped him on his way from Blaenau Gwent Indoor Bowls Club, especially Mostyn and Ann for all their coaching and support."
