Pill Harriers - 3

Abergavenny RFC - 8

Abergavenny travelled to Newport to face Pill Harriers on a ground where they have not enjoyed rich pickings in recent times, but this time fortune favoured the clarets.

Aber’s side showed only three changes from the previous week, with Dan Horler returning at lock and Gareth Beavan and Matt Sevenoaks forming a new centre partnership.

From the outset Aber attacked the Pill line and only simple mistakes prevented the away side from scoring.

Pill responded and began to apply some pressure of their own, mainly through their heavyweight pack.

Abergavenny defended resolutely, even though their pack were struggling to cope with the home side’s scrummaging.

The applied pressure resulted in a penalty for Pill and a 3-0 scoreline going into the break.

Into the second half and Aber were on the attack with their backs cutting through the opposition on numerous occasions only for a stray pass or a dropped ball to prevent them scoring.

A penalty kick by Aber’s Josh Parr evened the account and soon after full back Parr finished a well executed backs move to give Aber a 3-8 lead.

Aber continued to push hard for further points but it was not to be. Even so it was a good away victory for Aber and they can look forward to a home cup game next week against Caldicot with a 2.30pm kick off.
