A BUSY time of the year for Raglan Parc Golf Club Seniors was very successful for Richard Phillips and nearly just as successful for Raglan Parc.

Captain John Duthie's away day visit for the Spring was to Cardiff Golf Club, which proved to be challenging with its tight fairways and many trees. 36 players made the journey and overall the singles was won by Richard Phillips with 34 points followed by John Scannell and Martyn Richardson both on 33 points.

Richard's good score also carried his teams to victory in the yellow ball competition and the aggregate team competition. Brian Owen proved to be the one person to upset the Richard Phillips' show winning the "nearest the pin" prize.

Richard carried his excellent form into the friendly matches winning both times. Against Dewstow away Raglan were narrowly defeated by four matches to three with the winning pairings being Ron Thomas and Paul Murphy, Derek Watson and Jim True and Richard Phillips and Ron Jones. The final half point was secured by Don Jones playing with John Phelps.

The second friendly was against Peterstone Lakes at home when Raglan amply avenged their earlier defeat away winning six matches to one.

The winning procession was led by Captain John Duthie playing with Derek Watson and followed up by Richard Phillip and Brian Jones, Gwynne Jones and Peter Perrett, Gordon Jones and Jim True, Ron Thomas and Stuart Bradley and Reg Meyrick and Neil Sansom. Brian Lewis and Don Jones gained a well fought half point to cap a good day for Captain John Duthie.

THE South Wales Classic produced another tight away success for Raglan Parc Golf Club Seniors last week. Derllys Court Golf Club, to the west of Carmarthen, was the venue for Raglan's latest nomadic success.

All three games were very close in what proved to be a hard fought contest which was nevertheless a very friendly match. In the first game Wyndham Tranter and John Phelps were unlucky to lose their match but the deficit was quickly reversed with a last hole win by Terry Davies and Gordon Jones. Terry Davies again proved to be Mr Consistent rarely making an important error.

The final and deciding game went to the last hole as well when pars from Gary French and Brian Lewis proved to be too good for their opponents. On their travels in the South Wales Classic, Raglan have played at many different courses and would like to thank Derllys for the excellent condition of their course and their great banter and hospitality off it.

Raglan now go to Glynhir Golf Club Ammonford for their quarter final match on July 19.
