Crosstober Wales will ride into Abergavenny this weekend, and the two days of racing held on the grounds of the town’s Leisure Centre will boast all the thrills, spills, and top drawer racing fans of cyclo-cross have come to know and love.
This internationally acclaimed event is held by Abergavenny Road Cycling Club and welcomes World Champions, past and present, along with hundreds of other talented riders of all ages to battle it out over a demanding course.
A spokesperson for the event explained, “If you’re a fan of Cyclo-Cross racing, you’ll be delighted with the weekend of races we have lined up, featuring a number of the world’s best competitors. You can, if you’re keen, take part, there are races on for everyone over the weekend.
“However you don’t have to race! You can just come and watch the action and marvel at how dynamic and fast paced, riding a bike in less than ideal conditions can be, all for free.”
Competing at Crosstober will be the likes of Eva Lechner, Amira Mellor, Jim Arenouts, Tom Pidcock, Sophie Wright, Dan Tulett, and many more.
The spokesperson added, “Each race is determined by a set time, which is usually calculated by a number of laps of a circuit rather than a set distance, expect races up to an hour in duration. Courses can vary but you will notice that all or at least a large proportion of the course tackles grass, mud, gravel, sand, hurdles and a huge variety of natural and man made obstacles along the way.
“If you’re not a fan, yet, come and experience the Cyclo Cross community at it’s best. You never know, you may get the bug. It’s very addictive!
“Alongside the racing there is also an event village, showcasing plenty of cycling products and clothing for you to check out and maybe a bargain or two to buy for the cyclist in your life. There are also a number of fantastic caterers, hand picked, providing hot and cold drinks along with a plethora of tasty morsels.
“If you cant join us, you can watch all the action live on Sunday as S4C will be televising the event .”
