Goytre - 4
Pontypridd Town - 0
A Luke Prosser hat-trick and a solo effort by Rhys Williams ensured Goytre remain second in Welsh League Division Three after Saturday's 4-0 demolition job on Pontypridd Town.
Whilst first-placed Undy Athletic cracked open the champagne after winning both the league title and promotion with four games to spare, Goytre will not know until today if they'll be joining Undy in Division Two next season.
Depending on midweek encounters between Pontypridd Town and Briton Ferry Llansawel and the result of their own match yesterday (Wednesday) evening against Newport Civil Service, the future of Plough Road football, at the time of going to press, hangs in the balance.
Blaenavon Blues - 1
Pentwynmawr Athletic - 1
IN a game they had to win in a bid to lift themselves out of the drop zone, the Blaenavon Blues
could only manage the cold comfort of a home draw against Pentwynmawr Athletic.
The Blues started brightly with plenty of bounce, and drew first blood when Lee Penry expertly placed his shot from the edge of the area, past the visitors' keeper and into the net.
In the very next attack Penry was bought down in the box, but this time his spot kick was well saved by the Pentwynmawr keeper.
A clever Lee Penry flick put Lloyd Jeffries in on goal, but his effort was ruled out by a debatable offside decision. Pentwynmawr broke away on the 30 minute mark and Wayne Ottley in the Blues goal made an excellent save to preserve his side's slender lead.
Lee Challenger was a tireless worker in midfield for the Blues, breaking up what limited possession the visitors had.
The first half ended with a rare Pentwynmawr attack, their wide midfielder fired high and wide after working a good shooting opportunity.
Pentwynmawr came more into the game in the second half and on two occasions could have equalised - their target man headed a corner wide and squandered a golden opportunity in front of an open goal.
Josh Bull was put clean through just inside the visitors' half but was deemed offside by another poor decision by the referee. Penry forced the Pentwymawr keeper to make a great save, but it was not going to be Blaenavon's day as almost immediately the visitors broke away and equalised.
The final 20 minutes saw both sides cancel each other out and the game fizzled out into a 1-1 draw, a result which pleased the visitors more than their hosts.
The Blues will now need to take maximum points from their remaining four games to have any hope of retaining their Division one status.
Elsewhere in Gwent County Division One, Govilon beat Abertillery Excelsiors 2-4, and in Division Two, the Mardy delivered another timely win as they stuffed Trethomas Bluebirds 0-3 away to lift themselves out of the relegation zone.
