SUBJECT to ratification, six Crickhowell Bowls Club members look set to enter the Guinness Book of World Records after completing their marathon 12 hour bowls match a week last Saturday.
At 8.08am, in early morning sunshine, the first bowl was bowled and 12 hours later, after 148 completed ends, the blue team of Peter Hopkins, Steve Langley and Peter Stahl beat the red team of TIm Rees, Phil Reed and Steve Toms by 133 shots to 129. The quality of bowling was remarkably high despite the fast pace at which the game was played and a large crowd throughout the day gave the players constant encouragement and support.
In the evening over 60 people enjoyed a BBQ and social evening to celebrate the achievements of the players and the food for the occasion was generously provided by the Old Rectory Hotel.
Evidence of the day forwarded to the Guinness Book of Records for examination include a 12 hour video of the game on equipment provided and installed by Select Alarms and half-hourly score cards countersigned by the umpires Hilary and Colin Clifford and Janice Davies who, by the end, must have been as tired as the players.
The Crickhowell Club are most grateful to the support provided by a large number of local businesses whose generosity has been much appreciated.
Pictured are the players of both teams, plus Wyn Farr who was the reserve for the day and the three umpires.
