Mardy U18 - 4

Llanyravon U18 - 1

THE Mardy U18 stormed to a thunderous 4-1 win over a visiting Llanyravon outfit on the weekend.

Despite losing the toss and playing into the glaring sun, Mardy started brightly. Tom Jenkins scored an early goal, dispatching a bouncing through ball with a neat lob over the advancing keeper.

Llanyravon found more of a purchase on the game as the half wore on, but Mardy soon struck again. Mikeal Woodhouse won the ball near the home penalty area and linked with his midfield, where Ben Woodward chipped the defence to give the lively Tom Jenkins his second goal from close range.

Llantarnam scored from a headed free kick just before the interval to give them a small measure of hope going into the final 45 minutes.

At half-time, Mardy keeper Nathan Holley was substituted due to illness and Eoin Duggan replaced him, doing a good job with the gloves.

Early in the second half, Daffydd Jenkins put Tom Jenkins behind the defence on the right wing. His cross shot clattered against the far post and went in to give him a deserved hat-trick.

With Lanyravon chasing the game, gaps appeared in the sweltering sunshine and Mitch Heffernan angled a through ball to meet Ben Woodward's enterprising run. He beat the keeper with a rasping shot to make Llanyravon's misery complete.

Llanyravon's woes were compounded by a sending-off for dissent but they made a fist of things and the Mardy defence, with James Thomas and Daffydd Halls prominent had plenty to do until the final whistle, when Mardy could finally take their foot of the pedal and celebrate a well deserved victory.
