THERE'S one day each year at golf clubs that stand head and shoulders above the rest and that day is Captain's Day. Last Tuesday Wernddu Ladies' Section held their Captain's Day when this year's Lady Captain, Dina Davies, welcomed players past and present to the clubhouse and invited all to lunch after the hardy ones played in soaring temperatures. Despite the sizzling heat, the friendly game was extremely competitive with prizes being awarded for the Longest Drive, nearest the pin on hole number 14, the best Stableford score and to the player with the least putts on the round. Cherie Randall won the Longest Drive, with Lynne Gardner achieving nearest the pin, but going home in a blaze of glory was June Anderson who won not only with the best Stableford score, but also scored the least putts and her prize from the Lady Captain was a new golf bag. All present received gifts from the Lady Captain who thanked members for their support in her Captain's year and thanks to her were expressed by both Melba Simon and Pam Ambrosen. The Ladies' Section play every Tuesday morning from 9.15am at Wernddu Golf Club and visitors are very welcome to join this friendly group.
