Abergavenny Women - 0

Cardiff Met University- 2

THE champions from the past three seasons rode into town on the weekend and delivered a telling blow to the previously unbeaten and top of the league Abergavenny Women.

A nervous looking Abergavenny spent a long time to get to grips with the game, as the Cardiff Met University outfit dominated early possession without creating anything clear cut.

When Abergavenny did finally find some belief they really should’ve taken the lead but the usually lethal Lyndsey Davies and Amy Thrupp both spurned golden opportunities on the biggest of days.

Having missed those chances they were punished on 40 minutes when keeper Grace Thomas-Parr was beaten to a bouncing ball and the crucial first goal was scored by Chloe O Connor who was returning to the Met side having missed their 4-1 defeat at Cyncoed last weekend.

The second half saw Abergavenny with more possession but unable to create the killer blow.

Throwing players forwards always left Aber open to the counter attack and on 70 minutes this was the case when Jassie Vasconcelos was found free on the left hand side of the area to fire home the second.

Kate Jeremiah had a chance to reduce the lead with 10 minutes left but a fine save thwarted her.

This is the first time this season that the Aber Ladies have tasted defeat but nevertheless, going into December they’re still top of the Welsh Premier League and in the quarter-finals of both the Welsh Cup and Premier League Cup. Game on!
