Dinas Powys FC - 2

WHEN Abergavenny Town made the trip to Dinas Powys last October, Town ran out 1-4 winners, but last Saturday they found their visitors, who arrived at Pen-y-Pound on the back of three consecutive victories, much tougher opposition.

Town, who installed 19-year-old Jac Evans as their captain, and welcomed Ben Watkins, their loan signing from Merthyr Town, had been out of action since February 4, and were also missing the services of Declan Bull, Brett Alderson and Dafydd Brewer.

They were dealt a further blow after 15 minutes when influential midfielder Lewis Jones was taken by ambulance to Nevill Hall hospital with a suspected broken ankle.

When play resumed after a 30 minute delay both sides struggled to create any rhythm and settled for a 0-0 score-line at half time.

The decisive moment came within a minute of the re-start when Tom Indge saved a fierce shot only to see the ball fall kindly to the opposition who scored following a goal-mouth scramble. Town looked out of sorts, and did little to trouble Matthews in the opponent’s goal in a lacklustre second half.

When Dinas Powys scored again with a rasping left foot shot from the edge of the box with eight minutes left, Town’s fate seemed sealed, and so it transpired, as the visitors claimed another victory.

On Saturday Town travel to Ammanford Utd (kick off 2.30pm), whilst Town’s reserves who were without a fixture last Saturday, entertain Ely Rangers.(2.30pm).
