Abergavenny Town - 2

Caerleon FC - 1

ALTHOUGH Abergavenny Town never hit the heights of their cup win the previous week, they did enough to claim the points to beat Caerleon FC at a bitterly cold Pen-y-Pound last Saturday.

Goalless at half-time it took a Dan Jenkins header to ease Town ahead on the hour mark. His effort was helped on its way by the trailing arm of Caerleon ‘keeper Gareth Wesson.

Five minutes from time, the shortest man on the pitch, Paul Titchard rose highest to plant an emphatic header past Wesson.

Barely had the celebrations subsided when Caerleon struck back to give an edgy final few moments but Town held on to take the points, which were all the more valuable with all of their title rivals recording wins.

On Saturday Town travel to Bettws FC (kick-off 2:30pm).

Town’s reserve side kept up their unbeaten run returning home from Croesyceiliog, with a creditable 3-3 draw. Town’s goals came from Ben Bannon, Jake Heckles and Nathan Davies.
