Women’s Welsh Premier League football is coming to Abergavenny next season with the newly named Abergavenny Women F.C.

Relocating from PILCS Football Club in Pontypool after five years which has seen them rise through the ranks and become an established premier league outfit, the ladies will join forces with Abergavenny Town.

Club spokesman Wayne Jeremiah is excited about the prospect and told the Chronicle, "Having spent 10 years with Mardy Tigers in Abergavenny where we enjoyed some great success at junior level winning the U.16s Welsh Cup in 2010, we moved to Pontypool the same year to set up a senior ladies side.

“Consecutive league titles at local level saw us gain entry amongst the elite of Welsh football in 2013 into The Women’s Welsh Premier League. Three top five finishes, two Welsh Cup semi-finals and our first major title in 2015 when we lifted the League Cup following a thrilling 3-2 victory against Swansea City Ladies has helped raise the profile of the female game in Gwent.

“Looking to move the team forward it’s great now to come back to Abergavenny and especially for our manager Richie Jeremiah who plays his football at Pen-y-Pound for Abergavenny Town.

“Next season we’ll be welcoming top Welsh clubs such as Cardiff City, Cardiff Met and Swansea City to Abergavenny with the aim of hopefully reaching The Champions League in the next few years.”

The club will also be running an U.16s team next season and anyone interested can contact Wayne on 07969679666 or [email protected].
