ABERGAVENNY Town made it two Ardal South East League wins in two games with a 2-0 victory at Risca on Saturday.

Curtis Methven bagged a brace, striking first in first-half injury time, then doubling up on 66 minutes.

Table-mates Goytre trailed at home to Lliswerry under the floodlights on Friday night, but won through 2-1 after the Lizards were reduced to nine men thanks to two red cards.

Ethan Pidcock put Lliswerry in front after just 11 minutes, before Josh Gibson equalised a minute into the second half.

The Lizards then went down to 10 men when Niall Yeates was red carded on 72 minutes, and Goytre capitalised four minutes later when Sam Davies fired in for 2-1.

And Lliswerry's pain was compounded when substitute Simon Bolton was shown a second yellow in injury time to receive his marching orders.

But having lost 4-0 at Newport Corinthians in their league opener, things didn't get any better for Blaenavon Blues at Caldicot Town on Saturday, losing 5-1 after Matt Burns had put them in front after just seven minutes.

Abergavenny Town host newly-promoted bottom side Cwmbran Celtic on Friday night (August 14), while Blues will hope to turn things around at home to Brecon Corries on Saturday, when Goytre visit Risca.

Elsewhere, Clydach Wasps lost their Gwent Premier top tier opening match 1-0 at home to Caerleon, with the winner coming in the 75th minute.

Brynmawr United won 2-0 at home to Ponthir in GP1 thanks to goals from Nathan Price (38) and Charlie Davies (66), but Nantyglo were on the end of 4-0 defeat at Fairfield United.

Wasps face Sifil away in Newport on Saturday, while Brynmawr visit Cwmcarn, Nantyglo host Albion Rovers and Crickhowell open their GP2 account at home to Riverside.
