ABERGAVENNY Town went out of the FAW Cymru Welsh Cup at lower-ranked Penygraig United following a 1-0 defeat on Saturday.

In a tight game, the South Wales Alliance outfit took the lead through a great Sam Davies finish on 68 minutes, and held off the Pennies' bombardment with a rugged defensive display to go through.

Goytre could join them on Wednesday night (August 26) in the next round when they host Newport outfit Pill at Plough Road.

Gwent Premier Clydach Wasps also went out at the second qualifying stage after another narrow 1-0 reverse at home to South Wales Premier Championship outfit FC Cwmaman, whose winner came in the 29th minute before the hosts were reduced to 10 men for a second yellow in the final minutes.

But Wasps went through to the second round of the Gwent Premier League County Motors Cup in midweek with a 4-1 win at Lucas Cwmbran, the goals coming from Ben Rogers (10, 20), Josh Baynton (79) and Will Owens (83).

Usk Town also went through in the latter competition 3-2 at home to Cwmcarn Athletic, Louis Quinton (7) and Sam Vaughan (10) giving them a flying start before Ryan Hancock scored a third for a 3-1 lead in first half injury time.

But GP1 Brynmawr went out 2-0 at home to top tier Monmouth Town, who scored on 35 and 81 minutes.

And Nantyglo also exited 3-1 at Graig Villa Dino after leaking two late goals, Harley Trigg having fired them level on 73 minutes.

Elsewhere, Blaenavon Blues got off the mark in the Ardal South East League with a 4-1 Saturday away win at Lliswerry, all the goals coming in the second half, from Harrison Archer (46), Nathan Watts (47), Matt Burns (83) and Gabe Bull (89).

Abergavenny Town host Chepstow Town in the Ardal League Cup on Friday night, while Goytre visit Lliswerry and Blaenavon host Seven Sisters Onllwyn on Saturday.
