WELSH super-lightweight champion Kieran Gething will be defending his title against Newport fighter Craig Woodruff when the two go toe to toe in the capital this June.

Woodruff (26) only returned to the ring in November last year after a four year absence and Gething can’t see the Newport man lasting ten rounds.

Gething explained, “Woodruff’s a quality fighter and it’ll definitely be a challenge but I think my superior fitness will show. Woodruff doesn’t too do much sparring and relies too much on his reflexes. I’m always at my best when my opponent is a bit over confident so I think on the night the fight will be mine for the taking.”

The fight will take place at Cardiff’s Vale Sports Arena on June 1. If all goes well Gething is hoping for a Commonwealth title shot later this year and also to realize the dream of fighting in his mum’s home city - Liverpool.
