Cardiff City Ladies U16s - 2

Abergavenny Women U16s - 7

WITH Abergavenny Women seniors not in action this weekend it was the turn of the future stars to take centre stage, and on paper, at least a difficult away trip to Cardiff City Ladies.

In the opening half, 14-year-old Abergavenny youngster Eliza Atkins scored a remarkable five goals in 35 minutes.

Eliza’a effort was all the more remarkable because the pitch wasn’t in the best condition, but her maturity in front of goals saw her put away every chance she got.

With a 5-1 scoreline at the break it was pretty much game over.

Knowing that a win would take them to the top of the league, Abergavenny U16s were determined not to let the opportunity slip, and with the central midfield trio of Cerys Pinchard, Caitlin Veale and Lowri Brickell in control, it was never likely.

Substitutions disrupted the flow in the second half but an own goal and a Caitlin Veale goal completed a very satisfactory afternoon.

Watching seniors’ assistant boss Wayne Jeremiah was full of praise for the youngsters and especially for player of the match Eliza Atkins, who he has no doubt in a couple of years will make the step up to Premier League action with the seniors.
